The full story

Ethiopia Halo Beriti

Washed Grade 1 Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee with honeysuckle, peach, and sweet tea notes. Delicate floral complexity from 750 smallholder farmers.

This exceptional washed Ethiopian coffee comes from the renowned Yirgacheffe region, specifically from the Halo Beriti Washing Station in Gedeb. Established in 2014, this washing station serves 750 smallholder producers who deliver their coffee cherries for expert processing. This particular lot represents a "special preparation" where meticulous hand-sorting was performed repeatedly throughout the receiving and drying process, ensuring only perfect coffees made it into the bags—resulting in the prestigious Grade 1 designation.

Grown at elevations between 2,100-2,300 meters above sea level, this coffee showcases the delicate, complex character that has made Yirgacheffe famous among specialty coffee enthusiasts worldwide. We taste subtle notes of honeysuckle, peach, apricot, and sweet tea, complemented by delicate florals including bergamot and jasmine.

Coffee production in Ethiopia follows traditional smallholder farming practices, where farmers typically grow coffee on very small plots alongside other crops. Most don't utilize fertilizers or pesticides, allowing the natural terroir and indigenous Ethiopian Heirloom varieties to express themselves fully. This organic approach, combined with ideal growing conditions and expert processing, creates coffees with unparalleled complexity.

Ethiopia Halo Beriti represents the pinnacle of washed Ethiopian coffee processing and showcases why Yirgacheffe remains one of the world's most celebrated coffee origins. Perfect for those who appreciate delicate, floral coffees with subtle complexity, this coffee is best enjoyed black to fully appreciate its intricate flavor profile, but, as always, this is a judgement-free zone.
