Tanzania Southern Highlands Peaberry
A washed peaberry from Tanzania's Southern Highlands, offering a creamy body, gentle sweetness, and refreshingly unique flavors of honeydew melon and cola.
This coffee is produced by hundreds of smallholder farmers throughout Tanzania's Southern Highlands, where ripe coffee cherries are handpicked and delivered to nearby washing stations for processing. After depulping, the coffee is washed and carefully dried for 9–14 days, resulting in a cup with remarkable clarity, sweetness, and balance.
What makes this lot especially distinctive is that it is composed entirely of peaberries—a naturally occurring mutation found in only a small percentage of coffee cherries. While most cherries develop two flat-sided beans, a peaberry forms when only one round seed fully develops inside the fruit. These beans are carefully separated during milling and combined into their own lot, creating a coffee prized for its rarity and beautifully consistent cup.
The result is a refreshingly elegant coffee with delicate notes of honeydew melon supported by a creamy, almost syrupy body and a gentle, lingering sweetness that reminds us of cola. Its soft acidity and clean finish make it equally enjoyable brewed as filter coffee or enjoyed with milk as espresso.
